Hand spindle

$10.00

This is the simple low-whorl spindle we use in our distaff spinning classes. A 12 inch tapered wooden shaft with a pressure fit wooden whorl, these spindles are designed for use in medieval-style spindling, also called “spinning in the hand.”

Begin spinning with the whorl in place, and remove it when you have enough yarn on the spindle that the weight of the whorl is no longer needed. This spindle features a wooden toy wheel as a whorl, but you can swap it out for a bead or other small object that will slide snugly onto the spindle shaft. Old school spindling!
